Hammer Merkavas into plows
When will your sons stop fighting
When will you sow the minefields with seeds

When will the time
Of harvest and vintage come
When will you proclaim the peace
When will your daughters give birth with joy

Oh Jerusalem! Holy City
Will you raise your head or sink to the bottom
Will you send your trade ships far away
Or – like in the past – they will level you to the ground

Oh Jerusalem, don't listen to the prophets
Who foretell joy and peace
In the blink of an eye you will turn into dust
Your enemies will buzz their mocking chants

Amidst your walls the knight-errants stood
Alexander the Great and Saracens
Nearby, around the city walls
Rommel's army bogged down in desert sand

So many wanted to possess you
Burning obsession's grip is tight
He who touches you, gets closer to the essence
Holy City of unholy madness
Genuine holiness, holy semi-gods
Holy dogmas, chapels and tombs
Holy pictures, figures and icons
Mosques, churches and synagogues
Thousands of pilgrims tread paths down
Seeking ardently for enlightenment
What if the Christ was crucified again
Would the crowd stare like it used to?

Will I become Moses or rather a Messiah?
Will I pitch a tent by the West Gate?
Will I cry bitterly by the Wall of Crying
Or will I curse you, oh Jerusalem!
Am I a prophet or charlatan
God's messenger or elusive wind
Am I to be swallowed – like many others
Swallowed by this insane Jerusalem syndrome
